Data centers have emerged as the fastest-growing sector for ENERGY STAR certification, with more than a four fold increase between the number of data centers certified in 2014 and 2018. The certification recognizes that the company’s data centers rank in the top 25% of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency.
Among the 100 data centers certified in 2018 are two Better Buildings Challenge Partners- Digital Realty and Stanford. Digital Realty's data centers are now saving a total of 720,000 megawatt hours relative to industry-average data centers, enough to power 80,000 average U.S. homes for a year and eliminating 535,000 metric tons of C02 emissions.
The ENERGY STAR Data Center webpage has resources geared to help data center owners and operators achieve efficiency, including Portfolio Manager, which allows users to estimate the carbon footprint of your data center.
