Data centers have emerged as the fastest-growing sector for ENERGY STAR certification, with more than a four fold increase between the number of data centers certified in 2014 and 2018. The certification recognizes that the company’s data centers rank in the top 25% of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency.
Among the 100 data centers certified in 2018 are two Better Buildings Challenge Partners- Digital Realty and Stanford. Digital Realty's data centers are now saving a total of 720,000 megawatt hours relative to industry-average data centers, enough to power 80,000 average U.S. homes for a year and eliminating 535,000 metric tons of C02 emissions.
