Bio

Alex is committed to reducing carbon emissions through the development and adoption of new technologies. As a Research Associate in the Building Technology and Urban Systems Division, he conducts both quantitative and qualitative research on a variety of topics relating to organizational behavior, emerging technologies, energy efficiency, and critical materials supply chains. He is a skilled communicator owing to an extensive theater background and looks for opportunities to cross disciplinary boundaries and bring joy to others. He holds a B.S. degree in physics from Carleton College in Northfield Minnesota. He is passionate about learning new things, mastering new techniques, and approaching new problems. Prior to Joining the Lab, Newkirk was an energy innovation policy consultant with IHS Markit.
