Executive Order (E.O.) 13693 mandates for data centers: Ensuring the agency chief information officer promotes data center energy optimization, efficiency, and performance -- Section 3(a)(ii)(A); Install and monitor advanced energy meters in all data centers by FY ‘18 --Section 3(a)(ii)(B); Target 1.2 to 1.4 PUE for new data centers --Section 3(a)(ii)(C); Target less than 1.5 PUE for existing data centers (same). The E.O. 13693 Implementing Instructions provide further details; for example, core data centers shall have at least one certified Data Center Energy Practitioner (DCEP) and advanced metering shall enable the active tracking of PUE for the data center, as well as promote implementation of Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM).
